What lines should you be concerned with before moving patient?
any catheter, oxygen and IV lines should be moved and secured
What is a CBC test?
Complete blood count, performed on whole blood and can be used to evaluate anemia, leukemia, infection, dehydration and evaluation of specific blood cell types, differential shows percentages of WBC's
What are the 3 components of CBC?
1. hemoglobin - amount of hemoglobin in the blood, low levels indicate anemia
2. Hematocrit - percentage of cells to plasma
3. WBC count # of WBC
Is a glucose test done on blood plasma or serum?
Either one
What scan requires this to be done prior to procedure?
Prior to dosing patient with FDG in PET scans
What test measures glucose levels over a 90 day span to show glycemic control?
Hemoglobin A1C
What are the 3 Liver function tests?
1. Billirubin -excretion of old RBC's in spleen, excreted in bile
2. ALT (alanine transaminase) used to diagnose liver problems
3. AST (aspartate transaminase) elevated in acute liver damage
What test is the most commonly used to indicate kidney function?
Creatinine, which is produced from creatine and released into blood.
What kidney test measure nitrogen and urea in the blood?
BUN- (blood urea nitrogen)
slightly elevated indicates what?
greatly elevated?
slightly elevated indicates dehydration and greatly elevated indicates kidney failure
What are the 2 cardiac enzymes that indicate cardiac damage?
Creatine kinase - to diagnose acute MI
Troponin I - released into bloodstream when myocardiam is damaged (can rise over several days)
What is the hormone that is high indicating hypothyroidism and low for hyperthyroidism?
TSH-thyroid stimulating hormone
What is the other hormone that will be low indicating hypothyroidism?
T4
What test may indicate possible prostrate cancer?
PSA - prostrate specific antigen - may be raised in men with prostrate cancer
What test is a tumor marker?
CEA - carcinoembryonic antigen, produced by some types of cancer
What is the pregnancy test?
HCG - human chorionic gonadotropin
What are 2 scans in NM that CBC lab test is needed?
1. GI bleed
2. 111In WBC study
What NM scan requires a glucose test to be done?
PET/CT scan
What 2 NM scans require a liver function test?
1. Liver/spleen scan
2. HIDA scan (gallbladder)
What 3 NM scans require a kidney function test?
1. renal function scans with MAG3 or DTPA
2. renal morphology scans with DMSA
3. prior to IV contrast for CT scans
What 2 NM scans requires cardiac enzyme tests?
1. myocardial perfusion imaging
2. cardiac viability studies
What are 2 reasons to do a thyroid function test for NM?
1. 123I uptake and scan
2. 131I imaging and therapy
2 scans requiring tumor marker test?
1. PET/CT
2. bone scans
