Wheels: Made of steel and are produced in a variety of sizes. |

Axle: Solid steel shaft that holds the wheels to gage and transmits the load from the roller bearings to the wheels. |

Roller Bearing: Mounted on the end of the axle, sealed bearing units pressed on the axle, and the receive the load from the truck side frame. |

Roller Bearing Adapter: Designed to transfer the load from the side frame (flat square surface) to the roller bearing (round surface). |

|
Pedestal Roof Liner: Removable liner (wear plate) that sits between the adapter and the side frame to prevent wear to either of those components. |

|
Side Frame: Interlocks with the bolster and transfers weight from the bolster through the roller bearings to the axle. |
|
|
Frame Key: A small piece of metal installed in the side frame in order to retain the roller bearing in the event of a derailment. |

|
Truck Bolster: Transfers the car body load to the truck side frames. Consists of truck side bearings, truck side bearings housings, truck center bowl, and opening for the center pin. |

Bolster Bowl Rim: A portion at the top of the truck bolster that provides the bowl for the car body center plate to fit into. |

Truck Center Bowl: Flat circular area in the center of the truck bolster. |

Truck Side Bearing Housing: A bracket that contains the side bearing and is attached to the truck bolster. |

Truck Side Bearing:
A block, roller or plate, which assists in slowing freight car body rocking when cars move through a curve or on uneven rails. |

Bolster Bowl Liner: A plastic insert designed to aid in the slewing of the truck around corners. |
|
|
Truck Spring: Serves as a cushion to isolate the car body and its contents from the shocks and vibrations produced by steel wheels riding on steel rails. |

|
Column Guide Wear Plate: This plate serves as the replaceable wear surface for the friction castings. |
|
|
Brake Beam Wear Liner: A snap in liner made of steel or elastomer to prevent side frame wear. |
|
|
Friction Casting Wear Plate: A plate used to prevent wear to the bolster, can be bolted or welded in place depending on original construction. |
|
|
Friction Casting: Fits inside the ends of the bolster and helps control the vertical motion of the bolster in the truck. |
|
|
Brake Shoe Key: Small piece of metal about 14" long and 7/8" wide. Secures the brake shoe to the brake beam head. |
|
|
Brake Shoe: Applies pressure against the wheel to slow or stop the car. |
|
|
Brake Beam: Consists of the brake heads, a center strut, a compression member, and a tension member. |
