Name the three NSAIDs which are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
ibuprofen, naproxen, indomethacin
2 of the meds are common pain relievers.
What is the mechanism for the NSAIDs?
Reversibly inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX-1 & -2). Block prostaglandin synthesis.
Remember what COX-1 & COX-2 involves. I'm not sure if that helps
What are the clinical uses for ibuprofen and naproxen?
Antipyretic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory.
We commonly use Aleve for swelling or for inflammatory purposes.
What is the clinical use for Indomethacin?
It works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins.
It closes the PDA.
What is a PDA?
What kinds of problems do they cause with toxic levels?
Renal damage, aplastic anemia, GI distress, ulcers
kidney, blood, stomach
