There is no proof that this document existed, but According to North Carolinian lore, some citizens of Mecklenburg County gathered in Charlotte on May 20, 1775 and signed a declaration of independence from Britain — the first such move in the American colonies. It shows that NC was ahead on the independence band wagon.

The Edenton Tea Party was one of the first organized women’s political actions in US history. Women in Edenton, North Carolina formed an alliance against “taxation without representation."In response to the Tea Act,they resolved to boycott all British tea and cloth. NC helped by sending them supplies, and by having their own tea party.
