Spinal cord
In the central canal of the vertebral column and upon adulthood, extends from the base of the skull
Conus medullaris
Tapered cone shape region of the spinal cord reaching to L1-L2 (end of the spinal cord)
Cauda equina
Group of spinal nerves including the conus medullaris and other spinal nerves at the lower end of the spinal cord known as the "horses tail"
Filum terminale
Cord of pia mater from conus medullaris inferiorly, anchors spinal cord to dorsal surface of coccyx
Dura mater
Most superficial thickest layer of meninges, non elastic
Arachnoid
Very thin layer, second layer of meninges, honeycomb membrane found between pia and dura. Both dura and arachnoid end at S2
Subarachnoid space
Between arachnoid and pia, contajins CSF and large blood vessels
Pia mater
Third meningal layer, tightly bound surface of spinal cord thin transparent layer, vascular layer that contains blood vessrls that nourish superfical tissue
