Migraine - Diagnostic Criteria
A.At least five attacks fulfilling B-E.
B.Headache lasting 4-72 hours (untreated or unsuccessfully treated).
C.Headache has at least two of the following characteristics:
1.Unilateral location
2.Pulsating quality
3.Moderate or severe intensity (inhibits or prohibits daily activities)
4.Aggravation by walking stairs or similar routine physical activity
D.During headache, at least one of the following:
1.Nausea and/or vomiting
2.Photophobia and phonophobia
E. Disorders that mimick migraine or precipitate it have been excluded
Tension Headache - Diagnostic Criteria
A. Average headache frequency 15 days/month (180/ year) for 6 months or longer fulfilling criteria B-D listed below.
B. At least 2 of the following pain characteristics:
1. Pressing/tightening (non-pulsating) quality.
2. Mild or moderate intensity (may inhibit, but does not prohibit activities)
3. Bilateral location
C. No aggravation by walking stairs or similar routine
physical activity
D. Both of the following:
– No vomiting
– No more than one of the following: Nausea, photophobia or phonophobia
