RJ11

Rj11- small connector used to connect a telephone line. Uses a 6p4c for dual line use. RJ45- used for ethernet connection. Its similar in size to an RJ 48C which is used for T1/WAN lines. RS232- built for modem or router connection. Coupler- lengthens the cable run but loses signal for each coupler.

BNC Connectors

BNC Connectors- coaxial cable connector that snaps in place. Used in 10Base2, DS3 WAN Links. F connector- used for cable modem or television. 66block- patch panel for analog voice. Left side patched to the right. Used in data centers. Replaced by 110 blocks. It allows cables to meet in the middle. Punches cables at the bottom and the connection block is at the top

Copper Cables

UTP- no shielding on the wire. The most common twisted pair cabling. STP Additional shielding that protects against interface such as florescent lights. More expensive! Category 5e supports 100BASE-TX or 100BASE-T. The maximum distance is 100 meters. Category 6 supports 10GBASE-T. Maximum Distance is up to 37 to 55 meters. Category 6A extends to 100 meters.
