2-Gyrus/ Gyri

1-Grooved area of the brain.

2-Raised rea of the brain

Diencephalon Contains:

the Thalamus and the HypoThalamus

Thalamus:

Receives sensory information and directs it to the proper portion of the cortex

Hypothalamus

just bellow the thalamus.

Controls the Pituitary and form a link between the endocrine and the nervous system.

-Maintains body homeostasis by regulating body temperature , eating , water balance,emotions, sexual behavior.

Epithalamus funct:

pineal gland secrets Melatonin to control the Wake/Sleep cycle, and Habenular nulcei

SubThalamus:

invilved in controlling muscular activities.

Brainstem:

1-MidBrain: contain reflex center for improved vision and hearing.

2-Pons: a bulge on the anterior surface of Midbrain, connects the brain's different regions.

3-Medulla Oblongata: connects the brain with the spinal cord , and it is VITAL center for control of heart, respiration, and blood pressure.

Cerebellum:

Second larget, just bellow the Occipital Lobes, and dorsal to the Pons and Medulla, devided into 2 hemipheres.

It Helps to control voluntary muscle mvnt and maintain posture, coordination and ballance.

Ventricles(cavities):

4 ventricles within the brain in which CerebroSpinal Fluid (CSF) is produced.

meninges :

1-Dura mater: outermost and toughest.

2-Arachnoid mater: thin web like layer .

3-Pia mater : thin Vascular layer, attaches directly to the tissue of the brain and spinal cord.

Cranial nerves are 12:(numbered from I to XII)

I Olfactory, II Optic, Oculomotor III, Trochlear IV, Trigeminal V , Abducens VI , Facial VII, Vestibulocochlear VIII ,Glossopharyneal IX , Vagus X, Spinal Accessory XI , Hypoglossal XII.

Autonomic Nervous System(ANS):

1-Sympathetic Nervous system (eg: Thorcolumbar): motivate our response to Stress (fight or Flight) it increase heart rate, and respiratin rate, stimulate the adrenaline gland, and delivers more blood to the skeletal muscles.

2-Parasympathetic nervous system ( Eg: Craniosacral) : returns the body to as Steady State ans stimulates maintenance activities such ad digestion of food.
