Enter the abdomen posterior to the medial arcuate ligament and anterior to the quadratus lumborum muscle

Pierce the transversus abdominus near the anterior superior iliac spine

pass through internal and external oblique muscles

Supplies the skin of the suprapubic and inguinal regions

L2 and L3

Runs inferolaterally on the iliacus muscle

Enters the thigh posterior to inguinal ligament just medial to the anterior superior iliac spine

Supplies the skin on the anterolateral surface of the thigh

Femoral nerve (spinal nerve origin, path, and innervation)

L2-L4

Emerges from lateral border of the psoas

Innervates the iliacus muscle and extensor muscles of the knee
