discuss alcohol dehydrogenase pathway (ADH)
activated in low-moderate intakes and is metabolized through a series of reactions that requires two enzymes (alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase) to take ethanol to acetaldehyde and turn that into acteyl-CoA- in liver for the most part
discuss microsomal ethanol oxidizing system (MEOS)
same as ADH pathway, but requires energy- becomes increasingly active and efficient over time so build up a tolerance and have to drink more to get same effect- this system also metabolizes all other drugs and other foreign substances
