Uses for conjugated estrogen (Premarin)

- Symptoms associated with menopause, breast cancer, prostatic cancer.
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
- Prevention of osteoporosis.
Nursing Considerations for conjugated estrogen (Premarin)
1. Monitor blood glucose for diabetics.
2. Monitor BP q4h; watch for increase caused by H2O and Na+ retention.
3. Monitor I&O ratio.
Patient teaching for conjugated estrogen (premarin)
1. Take exactly as prescribed, DO NOT DOUBLE DOSE
2. Increased weight gain and edema should be reported.
3. Thromboembolic symptoms should be reported: pain, rednesss, tenderness in legs; ches pain, dyspnea, headaches, blurred vision.

1. Monitor K+, blood glucose, urine glucose while on long-term therapy. Hypokalemia and hyperglycemia may occur.
2. Monitor weight daily; notify HCP of weakly gain >5lb

1. Do not discontinue abruptly, adrenal crisis can result.
2. Avoid OTC products
