Mutation - Cause |
Mutation is a change in the DNA sequence of a gene. The new allele changes the protein that is coded for by this sequence then this may cause a mutation. |
Mutation - How is it passed on? |
Mutation will only be passed on if it occurs in the sec cels, because that's where your offspring will get your genes from. If it is in the body cells, it will not be passed on. |
Dominant |
The allele or characteristic that is expressed or visable |
Allele |
Gene is a stretch of a DNA that determines a particular trait. Genes can mutate and take two or more alternative forms, now these are called alleles of a particular gene. |
Heterozygous |
Heterozygous contains two different alleles of a gene, for example it would be written Nn. |
Think Heterosexual, because they're a man and a woman - two sexes |
Recessive |
The hidden allele or characteristic that is hidden or masked |
