Inflammatory disease of culligen formed in the connective tissue. Tx. usually includes corticosteroids and immunosupressants.

Medication used for Toxoplasmosis/AIDS. Notify physician if the client develops a S.T and fever. Med supresses bone marrow.
Dapsone (Avlosulfon)
Used to tx. Toxoplasmosis or Pnemocystis Carinii in aids pts. Antimalarial/antiprotozoa.
Pyrimethamine (Daraprim)
Antiretroviral protease inhibitor used to manage AIDS. Avoid sun exposure and eat a high fat, high calorie diet to increase absorption. Can cause photosensitivity.
Saquinovir (Fortovase)
Used for SLE lupus. An eye exam should be performed initially and again in 6 mos. due to ototoxic effects.
Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil)
HIV medication, antiretroviral. Monitor for unsteady gait, peripheral neuropathy.
Stavudine (Z4t, Zerit)
Drug for AIDS which can be hepatotoxic. Liver function studies must be monitored closely.
(Hivid)Zalcitabine
Toxic to the kidneys. Used for Cytomegalovirus in AIDS pts. Also may cause decrease in Potassium, magnesium, calcium and phosphorus. Creatinine must be monitored initially, then 2-3 times per week during the initial therapy, then once per week there after.
Foscarnet (Foscavir)
A Herpes virus.Giant cell. Sx: fever, diarrhea, hepatitis,pneumonia, and high mortality. Main drugs are ganciclovir, valacyclovir and foscarnet.
Cytomegalovirus
Caused by a fungus. leading cause of morbidity and mortality in AIDS pts. SX: fever, cough, SOB, thickening of lung epithelium and fluid infiltration to lungs.
Pneumocystis Carinii
Parasite. Most common host is the feline family. Caused by contaminated meats. SX: s.t, lymph node enlargement and low-grade fever. The outlook is grim in those who are immunocompromised.
