1. Know own limitations to avoid injury of self or patient
2. Use proper body mechanics: LE to lift, not back 3. Clear areas of any clutter 4. Lock the chair. 5. Use transfer belt if needed 6. Lock brakes 7. Swing away legrests and flip up footplates *Extra: Remove armrest if patient unable to assist, too heavy to stand, or has a WB precaution. |

What are the different transfer types?

1. Stand-Pivot Transfer
2. Seated Transfer / Pop-over Transfer (used for those with decreased endurance or WB precautions) 3. Sliding Board Transfer (if cannot stand: SCI, amputations) 4. Dependent Transfer 5. Mechanical Lift Transfer 6. Use of adaptive or mobility devices: - Bed transfer aids: trapeze, bed rail - Bath transfer aids: grab bars, commode, ambulatory devices, wheelchairs 7. Chair Lifts (person cannot transfer independently) |
