What are the two types of technical manuals?
Operational and maintenance
What are operational manuals?
Manuals and other forms of documentation that contains a description of weapon systems with instructions for their effective use.
What are maintenance manuals?
Documents containing a description and instruction for the effective use and support of the weapon system from a viewpoint of upkeep and repair.
What is a general engineering series manual?
Covers standard aviation maintenance practices, which apply to all aircraft rather than a T/M/S.
What is a Technical documentation list?
Similar to an index but structured with a view to assisting maintenance personnel in the selection of appropriate manuals.
What are maintenance instruction manuals?
provide both general and specific instructions which are required for maintenance at organizational, intermediate, or depot levels of maintenance on aircraft, weapon systems, etc.
What is a general aircraft information manual?
Contains a general description of the a/c which shows its spec's.
What is the Navy's a/c weight and balance manual?
NAVAIR 01-1B-50
What is the planned maintenance system?
A series of manuals that portray selected maintenance requirement and inspections.
What is the conventional numbering system (CNS)?
Contains a prefix and combination of numbers and letters divided into three parts separated by dashes (i.e. NAVAIR 00-25-100).
What is the Prefix of the CNS?
The technical manual prefix, i.e. NAVAIR.
How many parts of the rest of the CNS?
3 parts.
What is part 1 of the CNS?
A two digit number that designates the general subject classification or major category.
What is part 2 of the CNS?
Consists of numbers and/or letters that id either the basic a/c model, manufacturer of specific a/c or engines, group, or subcategory of the manual.
What is part 3 of the CNS?
ID's a particular type of manual.
What is the purpose of the 13 character technical manual identification numbering system (TMINS)?
Serves as the TM id number.
What is the numbering system for a CD-ROM numbering system for PDF manuals?
13-position code:
-Position 1 and 2 indicate a NAVAIR TM and 3 and 4 indicated CD-ROM and will always be A1-CD.
-Position 5-7 indicates type of manual.
-Position 8-10 are to be used for additional characters to describe the type of manual when three digits are not sufficient. If not needed, they will be zeros.
-Position 11-13 will be in sequence beginning with 001.
What are the two types of work packages?
1. information oriented provide support information
2. Task oriented that reflect required maintenance tasks.
How doe work package numbering work?
First three digits assigned in order (001, 002, etc). Last two digits are used when a change or revision is made.
What is an appendix?
Used to include material in a manual that is not part of the normal sequence of the manual.
