what are the complications of N & V?
dehydration, electrolyte imbalance,aspiration, malnutrition

stay in bed for 10-15 min after waking, keep saltines near bed and eat a few before getting up, get up slowly, avoid sudden movements, try to breath fresh air, avoid strong ordors
eat several small meals, avoid fluids at mealtime, sip small amts of fluid tra meals, avoid greasy, heavy, fried, and spicy meals
what pharmacologic agents are available for N & V?
antacids, H2RAs (ranitidie,famotidine- not really for N,stomach acid control), antihistamines (depress equilib. centers in inner ear, good for preventing motion sickness), pyridoxine (vit. B6, not available in US),phosphorylated carbohydrate soln (slows down activity in gut, good for N), oral rehydration soln (like Pedialyte-contain electrolytes, a lot lost during V)

examples of antihistamines products?
cyclizine, dimenhydrinate, meclizine (1st generation)
examples of phosphorae carb solns?
emetrol (safe for pregnant w), nausetrol, nausea relief
what are the SEs/cautions of antihistamines?
sedation, dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, tachycardia, urinary retention, avoid concurrent use of alcohol or other CNS depressants, children may experience excitation, elderly-confusion
