- sikhs are concerned about human use of the environment. they believe that people should be motivated to look after the world and natural resources.



- sikhs should aim to live in harmony with nature, abusing nature demonstrates greed (1/5 evils)



- trees are regarded as special and should be protected



- in the punjab, the gurus established places by the gurdwaras and community land where water is available. the land is not farmed but is planted with trees and plants.

- teach that the concept of dependant arising means we should care for the world (as everything depends on other things). the second noble truth is that we suffer because of greed. taking too much is going against this teaching. the first of the five moral precepts also teach that we should avoid causing harm.
