The trail of tears is when the government took the cherokee land after gold was discovered in 1828. They passed an act called the indian removal act, which forced the Cherokee to move west of the Mississippi River, to Oklahoma. The Cherokee fought it, and took it to the supreme court, but Andrew Jackson didnt care.
In 1835some of the cherokee signed a treatee that in 2 years, they would be gone.
Some fought it and didnt want to leave. In 1838 7,000 soldiers showed up and forced them to leave their land at gun point. Thats how they got the trail of tears.
