Describe the characteristics of HAV (DNA/RNA, +/-, etc)
Small, Single Stranded RNA Hepatovirus. Positive Polarity. Icosahedral, No Lipid Envelope
Describe the characteristics of HBV (DNA/RNA, +/-, etc)
Double Shelled DNA Hepadnavirus. 3.2kb circular, incomplete dsDNA. Larger particles are full assembly infectious virus particles with a lipid envelope. Smaller particles are a spherical nucleocapsid core and tubular or filamentous particles of surface proteins.
Describe the characteristics of HCV (DNA/RNA, +/-, etc)
Enveloped Flavivirus, icosahedral capsid, single stranded, positive sense RNA.
HAV Ab to dx acute infection

Populations at risk for HAV
Children at Day Care, Prisoners
Hepatitis with shortest incubation
HAV
IgM HAV Ab is detectable when
5-10 days before onset of sx
Hepatitis with NO CHRONIC STATE
HAV

Supportive, Ig given < 2wks after exposure can help, Killed Vaccine has 10-30yr protection
Primary component of HBV vaccine
HBsAg
Things contained in inner core of HBV
HBcAg, HBeAg, 1 molecule of partially dsDNA, DNA dependent DNA polymerase with reverse transcription function
Hepatitis with slow, insidious onset
HBV
HBsAG can be detected as early as ______ and as late as ______
1-2 wks, 11-12 wks after exposure
HBsAG no longer detecable after
3 mos
IgM HBcAb becomes undetectable after
6 mos
Marker of past HBV infection
IgG HBcAb
Markers of Chronic HBV infection

Clinical significance of different HCV strains
Infection with one HCV subtype does not protect against others
HCV tx
Support, Interferon, Ribavirin
Is there a vaccine for HCV
No HCV Vaccine
HBV labs most likely to show
Lymphocytic Leukocytosis, inc ALT, AST, Bilirubin
Pt has had jaundice, etc for 1 week. Had sex with prostitute in Thailand 6 months before. What serum marker would be positive
IgM HBc Ab
