Functional nursing model. Example?
Wound Care Nurse, dialysis nurse- This model is also referred to as the Task Method. Nurses responsible for certain tasks.
Team nursing model. Example?
Nurse, LVN, CNA, all work together as a team. The goal of the Team method is for a team to work democratically.
Total patient care model. Example?
An RN is assigned and responsible for planning and providing all care (within their scope of practice) during the assigned shift. ICU- one nurse to one patient, no CNA or any help.
Primary nursing model. Example?
One nurse takes care of one pt from admit to discharge. Do not see much of this anymore.
Case management nursing model Example?
Prepare for pt to go home- coordinate resources, insurance- check approval for resources
Priority setting. Why is it important to nurses? Example?
Set objectives. Nurses need to be organized. Ex; Maslow's hierarchy when assessing pt's needs
Use of resources. Why is it important to nurses? Example?
Nurses need to know where to find information before calling a dr. or asking a charge nurse for help. Ex: DDG, pt history/chart
What is delegation?
Handing out tasks but remaining responsible for those tasks getting done- following up.
Autocratic leadership style. Example
Authoritarian- dictatorship. Not so good in normal situations but can be beneficial in certain emergency situations- more efficient
Democratic leadership style. Example
Team leadership- everyone has a say
Laissez-faire leadership style. Example?
Minimal guidance. Not taking charge or control.
Transformational leadership style. Example?
Dynamic leader with a vision
Situational leadership style. Example?
When a situation occurs it may require a specific type of leadership- specific to the situation forces a person to become a leader.
What happens in the “unfreezing” phase of the changing process? Why?
A decision is made that change needs to happen and the explanation for that change is announced
What happens in the “moving” phase of the changing process? Why?
Plan is in place and there is a start to the moving toward the goal
What happens in the “refreezing” phase of the changing process? Why?

Why is it hard to change?
Resistance to change- coming out of the comfort zone is hard for some people. It is hard to see the value in change before it has taken place.
