Perseus kills the monster and marries Andromeda and turns Phineus (Cepheus’s brother and Andromeda’s fiancée to stone) Andromeda and Perseus return to Seriphos and they have a son Perses, Danae and Danae and Dictys have fleed Polydectess and they are taking refuge at an altar. Perseus turns Polydectes and his court to stone. Danae, Perseus, Andromeda leave for Argos.
1st version
Perseus goes back to Seriphos and turns Polydectes to stone and he and Danae go back to Argos. Acrisius fled to Larissa (Thessaly) Perseus pursues him, competes in an athletic contest, and accidentally kills Acrisius with a discus.

Great grandson of Perseus. Son of Alcmena and Zeus(disguises himself as her husband Amphitryon, because she is happily married).

Stheneleus (Amphitryon’s uncle) becomes king, Alcmena and Amphityron go to Thebes to be purified by Creon, Alcmena refuses marriage until he avenges her brother’s death.

Herakles is exiled to Thebes and the pastures of Mt. Cithaeron for killing Linus.
He frees Thebes from various Monsters. For this he is reward the king’s daughter Megara in marriage.
Hera again is a bitch and sends madness onto Herakles and he kills
Megara and their three children. When he becomes sane again he seeks purification in Thebes and then goes to Delphi for advice and a name. Right now he is called Alcides (grandson of Alcaeus), he doesn’’t have his own name. Herakles (glory of Hera, must become glorious in Hera’s eyes) advicetells Herakles to go to Tiryns and perform the labors for king Eurystheus (son of Sthenelus). He will become Immortal after the 12 labors.

5.Cleaning the Augean Stables, Augeus, son of Helios and the King of Elis, Diverts two rivers Alpheus and Peneus to clean decades of cattle poop that has piled up.

Alcestis and Admetus-Herakles is entertained by Admetus who grieves for Alcestis, who agreed to die in his place. Herakles wrestles with death for her return. Herakles challenges Hades in a wrestling contest (Conquering death)
9. Belt of Hippolyta-Queen of the Amazons- warrior women, northern limits of the world. Her belt or girdle has magical powers. Herakles kills Hippolyta (Greek vs. Amazons Wars)
On Herakles way home from the Amazons- he goes to Troy, rescues Hesione from the sea monster, she is suppose to be sacrificed. King Laomedon was suppose to pay him for saying Hesione, but he cheats him of his fee and later returns and sacks Troy and puts Priam in charge
10. Cattle of Geryon- 2-bodied monster, west-end of a human life (a palace of dying), must steal Geryon’s cattle, he is aided by Helios, golden cup,he sails to the River of Ocean. On his return he sets up the pillars of Herakles at the Atlantic entrance to the Mediterranean Sea and is now called the Rocks of Gibraltar.
11. Apple of the Hesperides- 3 daughters of Night- guarded a tree, far in the west, golden apples. The tree that the apples are on was a wedding gift from Ge to Hera. The serpent Ladon guards them. 1st version-Herakles alone kills the serpent and plucks the apples. 2nd version Atlas helps and Herakles is tricked. Apples=immortality, tree=eternal life and journey to the west=journey to death. He returns via EgyptEgypt, Libya, Caucasus Mountains, frees Prometheus from the rock where he was mounted to the Rock.
12. Cerberus- Herakles kidnaps Cerberus the watch dog of Hades. Herakles is aided by Hermes (easy access to the underworld) and Athena

After the labors are competed, Herakles marries Deinara, princess of Calydon(very pretty)
Wrestles with Achelous the horned river gods for her. Achelous can change his shape. They return to Tyrns and the centaur Nessus carries Deinara across the river but then attempts rape, Herakles shoots him with an arrow because he is still on the other side of the river. Nessus is dying and advises Deinara to save his blood as a charm, in case Herakles falls in love with another woman.
Herakles kills princess Iole’s brother and is unable to find purification;
Herakles goes to Delphi steals the tripod of Apollo this leads to a fist fight with Apollo. Zeus separates them and orders a year of slavery under Omphale queen of the Lydians. 1st version- acts as her hero doing heroic deeds. 2nd version- dresses as a womena and acts as her handmaid.
Deianeira finds out that Herakles’ love for Iole,
She dyes a cloak with Nessos’s blood and gives it to her husband as a gift to restroy their love. Herakles bursts into flames. Extremely larger funeral pyre, it is going to take nine days to die and burn away his mortal aspects.
After Herakles’ death, he is allowed into Olympus
He reconciles with Hera, and to show this he is allowed to marry to the daughter Hebe and then he becomes a god.

The Argos Saga begins in Boeotca (Orchomenos) King Athamas marries sky goddess Nephele (Cloud) (like Peleus and Thetis)
She decides that a mortal husband and a mortal life is not for her, so she returns to the sky. Their Children are Helle and Phrixus. King Athamas marries Ino (daughter of Cadmus) she is the first evil step mother, who tries to kill the children, by sowing bad grain so there was famine, King Athamas sends someone to Delphi to find out what they should do to appease the gods, Ino intercepts the message and changes it to you must sacrifice Phrixus.
Nephele and the golden flying ram-
Nephele seizes he children and puts them on the golden ram and flys to the east (Dardanelles-the straits that separate Europe and Asia.
Helle is small and weak and falls to her death
and to commemorate her they named the place where she fell Hellespont which it is still called today.
Phrixus- Colchis (eastern Black Sea) is treated as a great hero.
He marries King Aeetes’ (name means father of the people) Daughter. Phrixus sacrifices the ram and gives the fleece to the King who hangs it in a grove of Ares and it is guarded by a serpent.
In Iolcus (Thessaly) Cretheus, brother of Athamas
, king of Iolcus has two sons, Aeson(rightful king, exiled by his brother) and Pelias who now rules. Aeson and Polymede have a son named Jason. Polymedes sends Jason to Chiron for education and safety.
Pelias and the warning from Delphi
beware of the stranger with one sandal- he will kill you.
Jason has come of age and goes back to Iolcus to claim his throne,
He helps an old woman cross a stream and loses his sandal.
Hera favors Jason and is hostile to Pelias
because he has neglected her sacrifices. Sends Phrixus to him in a dream; regain the golden fleece, Pelias sets Jason on his quest: If he recaptures the golden fleece then he will recapture the throne.
The Argos is a ship- name means swift and was built by Argus with Athena’s help.
A plank was taken from Zeus’ oracle Dodona shrine and has the ability to speak and commicate directly with the gods.
The Crew of the Argos
Every hero wanted to be apart of this. Polydeuces-horseman and boxer, Zetes and Calais-winged sons of Boreas, Tiphys-helmsman, Argus who is the shipwright and Jason.
Lemnos and the curse of Aphrodite-
inhabited only by women, they did not give enough sacrifices to Aphrodite so she turned them into Prostitutes. Theirr husbands didn’t want to be with them anymore, so the women killed them. The Argonauts stayed there for a year at Cios northern shores of Asia Minor.
Herakles and Hylas (water Nymphs)-
sent out to find freshwater, they split up. The water Nymphs fall in love with Hylas because he is too beautiful for his own good and the pull him into the water and drowned him.
King Phineus and the Harpies-
King Phineus-blind prophet is tormented by two harpies because he told the future to someone who did not want to hear it. Zetes and Calais (winged sons of Boreas) Chase away the furies and Phineus warns them of dangers to come.
Dangers that Phineus warns the Argonauts about
Symplegades(clashing rocks) No ships have ever passed, if a ship ever does sail between them than they will be ficxed in place. First let a dove go and if it makes it between the two rocks, then paddle as fast as you can and don’t look back.
Island of Ares- Stymphalian birds
- herakles clashing shields makes the birds fly away and Zetes and Calais chase them.
King Aeetes- promises Jason the Golden Fleece if he performs a series of tasks.
Yoke a pair of bronze footed, fire breathing bulls, plow a large field and sow it with the serpent’s teeth. Medea the daughter of Aeetes, priestess of Hecate, nice of Circe, has magical powers, falls in love with Jason and wants to help him, she gives him magical ointment to protect him from the fire breathing bulls, she also drugs the serpent and captures the fleeces.
Medea leaves with the Argonauts, to slow her father’s pursuit
she convinces brother to come too and she cuts him up and the fleet has to stop and collect his limbs which slows him down
Returning Adventures- Scylla & Charybdis, Siren and the Phaeacians
The marriage of Jason and Medea stops her father’s pursuit because she is no longer his problem. Libya-they carry the argos across the desert and past the garden of the Hesperiaes guided by Triton.
Crete meeting with Triton, Talus guardian of the island
, bronze giant, has Achilles heel:bronze nail or membrane. If it is pierced the the ichor (life blood) flows out.
Back to Iolcus-the quest ends but the legend continues
Upon bring back the Golden Fleece, Pelias refuses to give up the throne. Medea rejuvenates Aeson(Jason’s father) and offers to do the same to the daughters of Pelias for Pelias. By cutting him up and then boiling him in special herbs, but for Pelias she does not add the special herbs. Both Jason and Medea are exiled and driven out, they go to Corinth, Jason marries the princess of Corinth. Medea is pissed and kills (Jason and Her)’s two sons and gives a cloak to the princess and she bursts into flames. Jason dies when he crawls under rotten wood for selter and pieces of the rotting Argos fall on his head.

Aegeus is now married to Medea Witch daughter of Helios and was the wife of Jason. Son=Medus(heir). Medea tells Aegeus that Theseus is an assasin and that they should poison him at the banquet. Theseus carves his meat with the token sword which Aegeus recognizes him by and does not poison him. Pallas (brother of Aegeus and his sons also have designs upon the throne:general bloodshed and destruction. Theseus fends off medea and has to fight with Pallas and sons and has to do more labors to atone for the blood murders

Phaedra ashamed of her unholy passion for her son, kills herself and leaves a letter for theseus accusing Hippolytus of seduction and rape. Theseus returns and banishes Hippolytus and alls on Poseidon, who sends a bull from the sea and frightens Huppolytus' horses and throw and tramples him. Dies reconciled with his father (tells him what really happened)
