What is My Korean School?
A fun place started by teachers where you can attend live small group or private Korean classes to learn Korean online with fun teachers.
Who are the teachers?
All of us are Korean, but we also speak English and/or Japanese as well. Our teachers are highly trained to be fun and engaging. We especially focus on teaching class conversationally, so that you can build up your speaking skills.
Is class taught in Korean?
Our beginner's course teachers use a lot of English or Japanese to quickly explain fundamental grammar concepts so that students can learn the basics quickly and understand the what why and how of the Korean they are learning. Beyond the beginners level, our private classes are taught in 99% in Korean so you get the immersion experience you need to excel at speaking and listening.
What class is right for me?
If you haven't learned the Korean alphabet yet or haven't learned much more than that, our popular beginner's course is right for you. We specialize in teaching new Korean learners the basics. If you have studied a bit, a private course is the best so our teachers can target your Korean needs.
How many students are in each class?
The beginner's course has a maximum class size of 7 students. Due to the limited number of places, we recommend you reserve your spot as soon as possible.

The private classes are just you and your teacher.
What is your teaching methodology?
Our small class sizes and private classes enable more attention on each individual student's needs. All of our teachers want to give you confidence when speaking Korean, and it is much easier when there are not 10-12 other students in class. In a typical school's group classes, any 1 student can only speak for a few minutes in each class and the teacher teaches through lecture--not conversation.

We teach with the Socratic method, encouraging students to engage in conversation with the teacher. We are confident you will see dramatic improvements in your ability to speak Korean. You will feel more confident speaking Korean in your daily life, so you will get more practice speaking Korean outside of My Korean School as well.
What do I need to know about the virtual classroom?
We use a virtual classroom for all classes that enables up to 7 live audio and video feeds on the screen. You will see your teacher's webcam and can share yours too, unless you don't want to.

It doesn't matter if you have a Mac or PC.

The classroom is feature-rich and has an interactive white board, chat, note taking ability, presentation sharing, shared web surfing (to watch a youtube video together, for example) and many more features. The virtual classroom makes class fun and it makes you forget you are learning online.

And you don't have to commute to class or pay for gas or subway tickets to get to school.
How do I access and use the virtual classroom?
We will send you a link you can click on. When it is time for class to start just click on the link and the virtual classroom program will start up.

The classroom is easy to use, but our teacher will help you out and give you some tips in the first session.
Tell me about the textbooks. Is there an extra textbook and shipping fee?
No. There are no extra charges for the books. We chose the books for the variety of activities included in each chapter, especially the speaking activities.

Each chapter includes 30-50 vocabulary words and a few grammar points to learn. But you will learn through interesting conversation with your teacher, not through boring vocabulary and grammar drills. One of our textbooks should last 4-6 months from start to finish.
Tell me about the flashcard system you use. What is good about them?
We use flashcards made at flashcarddb.com. This is an example of the system. You will study your flashcards using a Spaced Repetion System. That's just a fancy way of saying that you only have to review the flashcards when you are on the brink of forgetting them.

This method enables you to learn a lot of vocabulary in a short amount of time extremely efficiently. We pre-make all of the flashcards for you, so you won't have to waste your time making them.

You can export your cards to most other flashcard programs and you can use them on your mobile phone. Have a few minutes while you are waiting for the bus? You can review your flashcards for the day.
Is there a registration fee?
No.
Why should I take a course at My Korean School?
If you are a beginner, we think our beginner's course is the fastest way to give you a solid foundation of Korean. We have taught hundreds of beginners now and we are constantly refining our program to increase the depth of the Korean our beginners learn in one month.

For non-beginners, we think our private course option is the most fun and cost-effective way to improve your speaking ability. Being in a class with 10-12 other students is just not an effective way to learn how to speak Korean well. Your personal Korean teacher can target your weaknesses and challenge you to speak more like a native.
