(Leukaemias can also be put in this group)
What is polycythaemia rubra vera?
Malignant proliferation of bone marrow:

Increase in all cell types leading to hyperviscosity
Symptoms polycythaemia rubra vera? (8)

Epistaxis
Cerbral vascular accidents
Coronary events

What is Myelofibrosis?
Malignant proliferation of bone marrow, due to release of growth factor from megakaryocytes (produce platelets) leading to fibrosis. As a result there is extramedullary haematopoeisis (e.g. in the spleen)
Symptoms myelofibrosis? 3
Abdo pain due to splenic infarcts

Distended abdo due to massive splenomegaly

Symptoms of anaemia
What is Primary/essential thrombocytosis?
Increase in production of platelets
Symptoms thrombocythaemia? 2
Acute bleeding

Vascular occlusion - coronary, cerbrovascular accidents
Prognosis thromcythaemia? (2)
Myelofibrosis

Acute leukaemia
