Pulse- |

A basic pattern of sound and silence. It can be steady pulse or beat, or it can be made up of regular repeated groupings. |

Accent- |
An increase in the stress on a beat. Shifting the accent away from the first beat of a bar creates a more irregular feeling in the rhythm. A syncopation is created when the shift is set in a regular measured rhythm. Jazz and tap use syncopation; syncopation is exciting in dance as the accents fall in unexpected places and give an element of surprise. |

Time Signature- |
A number telling you the amount of beats which make up a repeated group. It's always shown at the start of the music. The time is divided up by a regular accent and this gives the metre.
