EXTERNAL OBLIQUE


O- Lower 8 ribs


I- Xiphoid process, linea alba, pubic tubercle, pucbic crest, iliac crest


N- Lower 6 thoracic nerve and iliohypogastric and ilioinguinal nerve (L1)


A- Supports abdominal component, compresses abdominal component, assists in flexion and rotation of trunk, assists in forced expiration, micturition, defecation, parturition and vomiting

O- Lumbar fascia, iliac crest, lateral 2/3 of inguinal ligament

N- Lower 6 thoracic nerve and iliohypogastric and ilioinguinal nerve

RECTUS ABDOMINIS


O- Symphysis pubis and pubic crest


I- 5th, 6th and 7th costal cartilage and xiphoid process

A- Compresses abdominal compartment and flexes vertebral column, accesory muscles for expiration

PYRAMIDALIS


O- Anterior surface of pubis


I- Linea alba


N- 12 thoracic nerve


A- Tenses linea alba

QUADRATUS LUMBORUM


O- Iliolumbar ligament, iliac crest, tips of transverse processes of lower lumbar vertebrae


I- 12th rib


N- Lumbar plexus


A- Fixes 12th rib during inspiration; depresses 12th rib during forced expiration; laterally flexed vertebral column same side
