When is CXR the best initial radiologic test/

for any kind of pulmonary complaint such as ShoB, cough, chest pain (pleurisy), sputum, hemoptysis

also th best test for abnormal physical exam findings in the lungs like

rales, rhonchi, dullness to percussion, chest wall tenderness, tracheal deviation, possible SVC syndrome

one requirement of getting a PA film is

that the patient has to stand up

because an X ray will show elevation of the periosteum due to inflmmation and bone destruction



long standing infection gives new bone formation, destroyed bone etc.

How sensitive is X ray for osteomyelitis>

not very sensitive at all- it can take up two weeks for X ray to show osteomyelitis

then what is a better test for osteomyelitits?

MRI- but you want to try X ray first

skull x rays are pretty much

useless
