what nerve might be injured by a fractureof the surgical neck of the humerous, dislocation of the humerous, or intramuscular injections?
axillary nerve, which is the terminal branch of the posterior cord (C5-C8). the axillary nerve supplies motor to the deltoid and teres minor, and sensory to the badge area over the deltoid. Motor deficit will include arm abduction at shoulder and sensory deficit will be over deltoid muscle.
What might be lesioned by trauma in the area above the clavicle?
Upper trunk (C5,6). Arms hang by side, elbow can't flex, arm medially rotated w/ forearm pronated (waiter's tip), loss of sensation over deltoid (C5) and lateral upper limb (C6).
What nerve root might be compressed by a cervical disk lesion?
C7 root. will cause pain from neck and shoulder down lateral arm to the middle finger. weakness in triceps, w/ numbness along thumb and index finger.
What nerve might be lesioned by a midshaft fracture of the humerus? Same nerve is compressed by crutches or back of chair - "saturday night palsy."
Radial nerve in spiral groove. You need the radial nerve to extend the wrist, elbow, thumb, proximal phalanges.
Sensory deficit will be posterior arm and dorsal hand and thumb. Sign = wrist drop.
What nerve might be lesioned by a superficial laceration in the palm, near the thumb?
Recurrent branch of the median nerve (supplies thenar muscles)
Which nerve would incorrect use of a crutch damage?
Radial nerve in axilla.
Which nerve would be damaged by supracondylar fracture of humerous; pronator teres syndrome
median nerve
which nerve could be compressed in deep forearm?
anterior interosseous nerve
which nerve could be damaged by trauma to heel of hand; fracture of hook of hamate?
ulnar nerve.
Where is the lesion in Erb's palsy (waiter's tip)?
Upper trunk (C5-C6).
Where is the lesion in total claw hand?
Lower trunk (C8-T1)
Where is the lesion in wrist drop?
posterior cord (from the middle trunk (C7)
Where is the lesion in winged scapula?
Long thoracic nerve (C5,6,7)
Where is the lesion in deltoid paralysis?
Axillary nerve (comes off of posterior cord, which comes from middle trunk, which comes from C7)
Where is the lesion in Saturday night palsy (wrist drop)?
Radial nerve (comes from posterior cord which comes from middle trunk which comes from C7 nerve root)
Where is the lesion when you have difficulty flexing elbow and variable snesory loss?
musculocutaneous nerve, which comes from lateral cord, upper trunk, and C5-6 nerve roots.
Where is the lesion when you have decreased thumb function "ape hand", Pope's blessing?
Median nerve (comes from both lateral and medial cords, so from C5,6 and from C8, T1).
Where is lesion when the intrinsic muscles of the hand are affected (claw hand)
Ulnar nerve (from medial cord, lower trunk, C8-T1.
