American Indians

People who lived in America before it was colonized by Europeans.

Imperialism

Increased imperialism lead to conflict between European powers and Native Americans. To take over using power, military power. It developed ESP problems in the colonies.

Indentured Servants

Lack of them causing tobacco growers to go hardcore on slavery

Slave Trade

Tobacco users relied on this rather than indentured servitude in order to get free labor and increase production and lower production costs, increasing profit.

Mercantilism

The colonies sell raw goods to the mother country, mother country makes stuff, increases the cost, sells back to the colonies.

James II

Tried to increase Britain's power by reducing the colonies political autonomy

Genteel Culture

A group of elite people who lived unlike people of the seventeenth century and unlike the colonists of the eighteenth.

The Enlightenment

Period of time where everyone tried to use empiricism and learn from nature, but only the stuff that could be sensed

John Locke

The guy who originally founded the life, liberty, and property believe. The Isaac Newton of politics

Colonial Assemblies

Elected American Leaders who believed they were defending the colonists liberty, but didn't give a crap about the poor

Great Awakening

Jonathan Edwards belief that America needed to turn back from their progressive nature and that they would burn in hell for the stuff they are doing.
