What are morphemes?
the smallest units in the structural analysis of words

Describe the two classes of morphemes.
Open- new info can be freely added (ex. nouns)
Closed- new items cannot be added (ex. agreement morphemes, 3rd. person present tense)
What is a root?
the innermost part of a word
What is a stem?
anything to which another morpheme may be added and which has a syntactic category such as noun or verb
What is an affix?
any non-root morpheme which attaches to another morpheme
What is a suffix?
an affix which attaches to the right
What is a prefix?
an affix which attaches to the left
What is an infix?
an affix which is inserted inside of a root or stem
