- affect skin, all cause ring worm
Ringworm
* Tineo capitis- ringworm of scalp
* Tinea barbrae- referred to as barbers itch, where facial hair grows
* Tinea crusis- ringworm of groin
* Tinea pedis- ringworm of foot
* Tinea unguium- nail beds
* Tinea corporum- anywhere on body
Blastomycetes dermatidis-
causes blastomycosis (gilchrist’s disease) starts as resp. infection, spreads to skin.. formation of multiple abcesses in skin … occurs in Southeast US, where climate is ideal for it.
Candida albicans-
candidiasis, yeast. Yeast infection

* Thrush-yeast infection of mouth , whitish gray scaley in oral cavity, ulceration underneath
* Genitalia- creamy white discharge, infection… seen frequently in aids
* Pregnant women have yeast infections at higher rate as well as diabetics , and in women who use oral contraceptives ,, anyone with lymphoma and leukemia
* Can become systemic
Coccidiodes immitis
* Coccidiomycosis- aka valley fever
* Occurs in SW US.
* 2 forms
* PRIMARY- mild respiratory self limiting goes away on own.
* Progressive- affects lymphatic system, can move to kidneys or brain. (fatal in kidneys n brain)
Crytococcus neoformans-
* Causes crytococcosis- aka torulosis
* Respiratory symptoms, and CNS … if effect CNS symptoms similar to meningitis, person has problems with vision, confusion
* Host is bird…in fecies
Histoplasma capsulatum- histoplasmosis
* Darling disease
* Very common oppourtunist in aids
* 2 forms
* Primary- respiratory, usually heals on own
* Progressive- affects throat, asophagus, and lymphatic system. Often fatal
* Natural host is birds and birds shit
Sporothrix Schenkii

* Sporathricosis
* Chronic infection of skin, nodules form on skin and start to ulcerate
Aspergillus
Species: fumigatus, flavium, nigra
* All cause apergillus- grown on shell notes
* Resp infection, ear infection and sinus infection
* produce aflatoxins- carcinogenic, mutagenic (changes in dna)
