Face plate

Located at the top left of machine to the left of the thread guide. The face plate may open depending on the model of sewing machine.

Thread cutter

Sharp blade build into sewing machine to easily cut thread when needed

Feed dog

The mechanism that feeds the fabric through the sewing machine when it's on and in use

Needle plate

Metal plate with hole in it for the needle to go into in a sewing machine. It's located in the same area as feed dog.

Bobbin Plate Cover

This plate covers the hole in the machine where the bobbin case and the bobbin are stored.

Removable extension table

This piece is added to extend the sewing surface on a sewing machine for larger pieces of fabrics.

Bobbin Winder

Located at the top of the sewing machine, this mechanism winds bobbins quickly and automatically.

Stitch length dial

This dial (or button) selects the length of each stitch on a sewing machine

Stitch width dial

This dial (or button) selects the width of each stitch on a sewing machine

Hand Wheel

This wheel located on the side of the sewing machine controls the movement of the needle

Power and light switch

This switch turns the power of the sewing machine on and off and turns the light on and off

Thread guides

This mechanism is located at the front of the machine and must be used to guide the thread from the spool at the top through the machine to the bottom needle

Needle clamp

This mechanism is what holds the machine needle inside the needle housing. It must be kept tight at all times or the needle will vibrate from being loose and may break during operation of the sewing machine.

Pattern

A piece of paper to follow when cutting out fabric for making a garment or sewing project
