Formatting Marks

Sometimes called a nonprinting character, is a character that Word displays on the screen but is not visible in a printed document. These are hidden by default and afftect how text is displayed in a document.

Wordwrap

Allows you ti tyoe words in a paragraph cintinually without pressing the ENTER key at the end if each line. As you type, is a wird extends beyond the right margin, Word alwo automatically positions that wird in the next line along with the insertion point.

Insertion Point

Is commonly represented by a cursor or an "I" beam cursor. The location within a document where additional information will be inserted when the user begins to type

Paragraph Formatting

Is the process of changing the appearance of a paragraph. For example, indenting the full paragraph or changing the font of a paragraph or adding bullets.

Character Formatting

Is the process of changing the way characters appear on the screen and in print. It can be uses to emphasize certain words and inprove readability of a document.

Document Information Panel

Contains areas where you can view and enter document properties. You can view and change information in this panel at any time while you are creatinf a document.

Line Spacing

The amount of vertical space between lines of text in a paragraph.

Paragraph Spacing

The amount of space above and below a paragraph.

Header

Text and/or graphics that print at the top of each page in a document.

Footer

Text and/or graphics that print at the bottom of every page.

Shortcut Keys

A key or combination of keys that executes a specific function or command within an application or operating.

Click and Type

Word feature to format and enter text, graphixs, and other items. To use this feature you can double-click a blank area of the document window.

AutoCorrect

Word feature that automatically corrects spelling, capitalization, or grammer errors as you type them in a document.

Footnote

A term used to describe additional information foubd at the bottom of a page. Often this will contain the source of the information, or additional information about the tezt contained in the document.

Endnote

Much like a footnote, this is additional information or credits gicen at the end of the document instead of at the end of each page.

Office Clipboard

Is a temporary storage area that holds up to 24 items (text or graphics) copied from ant Office Program.

Copying

Is the process of placing items on the Office Clipboard, but leaving the item in the document. The hitley is CTRL+C.

Cutting

Is the process of placing items on the Office Clipboard, and removing the item from the document. The hotkey is CTRL+X.

Pasting

Is the process of copying an item from the Office Clipboard into the document at the location od the insertion point. The hotkey is CRTL+V.

Enhanced Screen Tip

Is an on-screen note that provides the name of the command, available keyboard shortcut(s), a description of the command, and sometimes instructions for how to obrain help about the command.

Ribbon

Provides easy, central access tot ye tasks you perform while creating a document. Consists of tabs, grouos and commands an is located near the top of the window below the title bar.

Shortcut Menu

Is a list of frequently used commands that relate to the right-click object.

Path

Consists of a drive letter and colon, to identify the storage device, and obe or more folder names. The complete locatiob or name of where the folder, file, webpage, or other object is located.

Status Bar

Located at the bottom of the document window. Presents information about the document, the progress of the current tasks, and the status of certain commands and keys; it also provides controls for viewing the document.

Clip Art

A collection of photos, animations, sounds, and videos made by various artists to fit numerous different categories such as people, animals, schools, etc. that canbe inserted into a document.
