Don't take on the following pts children under 6 Yrs,pt with facial surgery,Neck, Nose or Mouth injury,those receiving Oxygen,Nasogastric tube and convulsive seizure, mental status. Eating ,drinking or smoking. Wait 30 mins before taking temp on these pts.

Tympanic (ear) temp use on children and confuse pts.

It is not use on pts which ears disorder or ear drainage. It takes 1-3 sec.

PULSE

Measure 60-100 beats per mins in an adult.

Apical pulse

More accurate measurement of the heart rate,taken over the apex of the heart. 5 intercostal space lateral to the mid calvicular line. In the Torso area.

It is use on infant, small children & pts with irregular heart rate

Rectal temp

Rectal temp Do not take on pt with disease,rectal disease of heart disorder, rectal pl lp surgery or diarrhea.

Pulse. Site from head to foot.

Temporal, Carotid,Apical,Brachial,Radial femoral,popliteal, dorsalis pedis and posterior tibialis arteries

Apnea

Temporary absence of breathing maybe a result of reduction in stimuli to center of the brain.

Cheyne-Stokes

Breathing pattern that starts with a peroid of apnea lasting for 10-60 sec by following increase depth and rate of respriration which is then followed by a decrease in rate and the cycle continues.

This cycle may be normal in children by may indicate brain dysfunction in other groups.

Orthopedic

Respiratory condition of severe dypnea ( labored breathing )

Difficultly or inability to breath.unless in upright position

Abnormal increase in the depth and rate of breathing
