Where do basophils dev and what are they regulated by?

dev in bone marrow and regulated by IL-3 and other cytokines

dogs-leukocyte count higher than other species, followed by cats, horses, and cattle
foals and calves-larger storage pools than adult horses and clattle and leukocyte response more similar to dogs and cats -cattle often have neutropenia w/ 'degenerative' left shift early owing to small storage pool of mature neutrophils |

classic stress respnose of neutrophilia, monocytosis, lymphopenia and eosinopenia most seen in dogs
-all species: usually no left shift, no toxic change, fibrinogen concentration normal -often see lymphopenia across all species |

What are some species specific leukogram patterns for physiologic leukocytosis?
|
cats: change most freq owing to large marginating pool of leukocyte and flight or flight response. Both physiologic neutrophilia and lymphocytosis may be seen.

What is the dogma for bovine leukogram?
|
cattle have more lymphocytes than neutrophils in circulation, different than most mammalian species. W/ stress, ratio flip-flopped. This may not actually be true, though.
