Winfield Scott
A Lieut. General during the Civil War, Scott was 74, suffering from numerous diseases and was overweight, unable to mount his horse or review troops. He did however develop the Anaconda plan which proposed a blockading of confederate ports and a ground attack through the Mississippi valley. The federal troops would eventually utilize this plan.
Fort Sumter
A sea fort located in Charleston South Carolina. It is most well known for being the location in which the American Civil War was started. Battle of Fort Sumter was a siege in which union forces were defeated and Lincoln decided to take military action against the C.S.A
Henry Halleck
Was a commander in Chief of all U.S. armies for two years during the Civil War. He became Grant's Chief of Staff after he assumed the position. He is well known as a military strategist but was cautious and Lincoln described him as being "little more than a first - rate desk clerk." - nickname was "old brains."
Robert E Lee
Lee was the commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia and later in the war as commander of all confederate forces. He had a successful military career and was known as a prolific general with many victories against union forces. He was known for his napoleonic style and all out attacks. Surrendered to General Grant at Appomattox.`
J.E.B. Stuart.
A calvary officer for the confederacy. He is well known as Gen. Lee's favorite scout. He is also known for his image, that af a plumed hat multi colored uniform. He embodied the knightly image of the confederacy. They needed their knight and Stuart was that man.
Jefferson Davis
Davis was the president of the C.S.A. during the American Civil war. He wasn't really a good president and was known for his inadequacies. Historians point to his a a major reason the confederacy failed.
