An apparatus that holds the objective lenses and used to switch between the different objective lenses.

Objective lens

4 lenses that carry different powers of magnification (4x,10x,40x,100x) on their own.

Stage

Supports slide or specimen to be viewed.

Stage clip

Secures the slide in place on the stage.

Mechanical stage knobs

Moves the stage in different directions.

Coarse adjustment knob

Drastic movement of stage to bring the object in the slide into focus. For use with scanning 4x objective lens.

Fine adjustment knob

Slight movement of stage to bring the object in the slide into focus. For use with low power (10x), high power (40x), and oil-immersion (100x) objective lens.

Condenser

Directs light onto the specimen.

Iris Diaphragm and Iris diaphragm control

Vary the amount of light projected onto the slide.

Light intensity knob

Adjust the amount of light needed from the light source.

Light source

Brightens up the field of view for better visualization of specimen under examination.

Scanning

4x: Scan and locate structure of interest.

Low power

10x: Locate a specimen and is used to view specimen that does not need high power magnification.

High power

40x: Use for specimens that require higher magnification.

Oil Emmersion

100x: Use for very small specimens such as bacteria and blood cells.
