The study of microbiology

Organism

A living thing that ingests and breaks down food for energy and nutrients, excretes undigested food as waste and is capable of reproduction.

Microorganism

A very small organism that lives outside and inside larger organisms such as the human body. It cannot be seen with an unaided eye.

Virus

An infection caused by a microorganism.

Anthrax

A disease caused by the microorganisms bacillius anthracis a bacterium that forms endospores and infiltrates the body by ingestion,s skin contact and inhalation.

Endospore

A structure that is at rest and can be found in some bacteria.

Pathogenic microorganism

An infection is caused by the infiltration of a disease causing microorganisms known as a pathogen. Some infect humans but not other animals and plants. Some that infect animals or plants also infect humans.

Mycobacterium

Bacterium that causes tuberculousis. This bacteria affects the lung tissue when droplets of respiratory secretions or particles of dry septum from a person who is infected with the disease are inhaled by an infected person.

Yersina pestis

A bacterial species causing plaque in humans, rodents and many other mammalian species and transmitted from rat to rat, and, from rat to humans by the rat flea.

Flora

Microorganisms found in our intestines that assist in the digestion of food and play a critical role in the formation of vitamin such as vitamins D and K. They help by breaking down large molecules into smaller ones.
