Tick removal, antibiotics. Long list of post-infective complications.

Typhus (Rickettsia prowazekii or typhi)
What infection route does Typhus follow?
Inhalation of louse feces, other.
What clinical presentation does Typhus follow?
Macular/maculopapular/petechial rash on trunk/axilla -> extremities. Opposite of RMSF.
What is HME (rickettsial disease)?
Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis
What is HGA (rickettsial disease)?
Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis
What causes scrub typhus?
Orientia tsutsugamushi
What's the diagnostic clue for scrub typhus?
Small papular eschar, central necrosis. "Cigarette Burn Lesion"
What are the risk factors for scrub typhus?
Chigger bites, seasonal, regional travel.

Bartonella bacilliformis
Cat Scratch Disease?
Bartonella henselae (local infection caused by Pasteurella multocida)
Trench Fever?
Bartonella quintana
What are the signs of Cat Scratch Disease?
Regional lymphadenopathy (axilla common from hand scratch), 1w to 2mo. following exposure.
Which populations are at risk for Trench Fever?
Refugee camps, homeless alcoholics.
What Bartonella infection is associated with raised, red nodular lesions?
Bacillary angiomatosis from Bartonella quintana/Trench fever. Lesions a result of neovascular proliferation.
What gram negative, highly resistant rod is associated with sheep farming?
Coxiella burnetii
