Melody
is the most prominent part of the song. (The part that typically gets stuck in the head).
Harmony
Typically made up of chords, which are combinations of notes. Tends to be more in the background of the song.
Texture
The different ways melody and harmony can interrelate.

how high or how low a note is.

how loud or soft something is.

Meter
Rhythm is composed mainly of meter and tempo. Meter is a grouping of beats. It happens in almost in all western music. A waltz is always in a three meter.

emphasizing the off beats. Used a lot in jazz but sometimes in pop + classical.
Tempo

major scale
Start at Middle C Pattern goes like “Whole Whole Half Whole Whole Whole Half.” It has a brighter sound.
minor scale
Start at A note (the second key in between the three black keys). Pattern goes like: “Whole Half Whole Whole Half Whole Whole.” It had a darker sound.
pentatonic scale
a five note scale. There are no half steps. Everything is usually whole or whole.5 step. It’s popular in Asia, Africa…but not much in western music.
Falsetto
very high voice that men do that sounds “fake.”

can sing in an alto and soprano range.

is the central tradition of Western plainchant, a form of monophonic liturgical chant in Western Christianity that accompanied the celebration of Mass and other ritual services.

a type of early polyphony where the chant is mirrored exactly at a different pitch level (usually a perfect fifth below).

a single held note. Often played in Gregorian chant. Half singer chants going up and down. While the second half sings first note at once
