Cognate
Looks the same in english and spanish. Ex. color, alarma, repita, and mapa.
Word Order
In spanish, the adjective typically goes after the noun. Ex. House white not white house, day blue not blue day.
Gender
In spanish, nouns and adjectives are classified as either masculine or feminine. Ex. El libro= The book (m). La mesa= the table (f)
Number
In spanish, nouns, adjectives and person are either singular or plural. Ex. El Libro= The book (m.s.) Los Libros= The books (m.p)
Agreement
In spanish nouns and adjectives must agree in gender and number. Ex. El libro blanco (m.s)

Indefinite Article
A, an some
Indefinite articles accompany nouns and tell gender and number. Not specific. Ex. Un libro= a book
Unos libros= some books
una mesa= a table
unas mesas= some tables
Definite Article
The, a, an, some
Definite articles accompany and tell gender and numbers specific.
Ex. El libro= The book
Los libros= The books
La mesa= The table
Las mesas= The tables
Nombre/Sustantivo
(M,F) (S.,Pl.)
Person, place, thing or idea. Nouns will always have a gender. Nouns will always use a number, and an article. Nouns can be replaced bu pro-nouns.
Pronouns- I, we, you, you all, he/she, it, they.
Adjectivo
Adjective modify(go with) nouns they agree with nouns in number and gender.
Ex. El Libro rojo= The book is red
La mesa roja= The table is red
Los libros rojos= The books are red
las mesas rojas= The tables are red.
Adverbio
Adverbs modify(go with) verbs. Usually they end in -mente. In english they usually end in -ly.
Ex. Quickly= Rápidamente
Slowly= Lentamente
Smoothly= Suavemente
Verbo
Verbs show action, In spanish infinitives end in -er -ir -ar. They can be regular or irregular. They can be conjugated.
Tense
When it happens past or present. Tense- Is when in time an action occured. In spanish, we will learn presente, pretenito, and imperfecto in wls&sp.2
Infinitive
The verb in an unchanged form. In spanish it ends in -ar, er, or -ir. In english it begins with "to".
Ex. to be=ser
to live=vivir
to understand= comprender
to jump=saltar
