Civilization

A complex society that has cities, organized government, art, religion, social divisions, and a writing system.

Mesopotamia

Generally regarded as the cradle of civilization, the Mesopotamians invented the wheel, irrigation, and writing (a system called cuneiform), among other things.

Irrigation

The method of bringing water to a field from another place to water crops that allowed farmers to grow more food.
