- Must be direct evidence that it is caused by GMC
- Onset of both occur together - - -- Signs of disorder are atypical for that mental disorder
- GMC typically produces the symptoms of mental illness

- Can't be explained by the presence of another mental disorder (not caused by a direct physiological process)

- Occurs not solely during a delirium
Personality Change Due to a GMC: subtypes & causes
- Labile, disinihibited, aggressive, apathetic, paranoid, other, unspecified, or combined

- CNS neoplasms, cerebrovascular disease, Huntington's Chorea, Epilepsy, HIV/AIDS, endocrine conditions

- Head trauma, cerebrovascular disease, encephalitis, metabolic conditions

- Motoric immobility, excessive motor activity, extreme negativism or mutism, peculiarities of voluntary movement
