Calcium channel blocker
Mechanism of Action
Causes vascular dilation and slows conduction through the AV node
Indications
atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, and SVT refractory to adenosine
Contraindications
severe hypotension or cardiogenic shock, ventricular tachycardia, atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation in patients with WPW
Precautions
systemic hypotension
Side Effects
Dizziness, headache, bradycardia, heart block, hypotension, and asystole.
Interactions
intravenous β-blockers
Dosage
0.25 mg / kg over 2 minutes. Repeat 0.35 mg / kg if no response in 15 minutes. Maintenance infusion of 5 – 15 mg / hr
