Intaglio techniques

Etching - acid resistant ground is added to metal plate. Dipped in acid.



Engraving - Artists literally engrave all lines using tools.




Aquatint - acid resistant resin is used and heated to add texture. Then etched.




Mezzotint - opposite of intaglio, uses rocker to create rough surface (black areas) . Smooths out desired white areas.

Oil paints - rich colours, smooth appearance and great blending properties. Dries very slow.



Acrylic paints - Dries very quick. Plastic in nature. Can be mixed with water.



Watercolour - color pigments in water soluble carrier. Luminous properties.
