How did the PAPER industry develop within China?
It started as bark from a Mulberry tree and then rags where used. It developed because of a need for recording and transmitting information.
How did the PRINTING industry develop within China?
It started with woodblock printing. Blocks of wood had raised carvings of characters. Ink was placed on the characters for printing. Print material advanced from sheets to scrolls to books over the years. Later moveable type made character blocks out of clay that were able to be arranged and reused. This significantly reduced the cost of printing.
How did the PORCELAIN industry develop within China?
The art of making porcelain was invented in China. The first may have been made in the first century CE. Porcelain was used for dishes, bowls, and vases. It was a prized item for trade.
How did the STEEL industry develop within China?
The Chinese were the first to make steel. They already knew how to make cast iron (the first step in making steel). Later they figured out that blowing air into melted cast iron causes a chemical reaction that creates steel. In the fifth century they learned to combine cast iron with wrought iron to make steel. This led to the mass production of steel.
Why was gunpowder such an important invention?
It was used in flamethrowers, grenades, bombs, and artillery shells and guns. It forever changed the way wars were fought. It also was an important starting point for the rockets we use today.
Explain how woodblock printing made possible the invention of everyday
objects such as playing cards and paper money.
Without woodblocking the mass production of playing cards would be too expensive and we would likely still only use heavy coins instead of the light weight paper money.

They were able to expose people to small increments of the disease so their body could develope strength against it.
