It is not used as frequently as Fentanyl but it is longer acting
Morphine - Analgesics
It is use ally used when giving the pt. Urokinase because it will help with the shaking that Urokinase can cause
Demerol (Meperidine) - Analgesics
Given orally for premature atrial or ventricular contraction, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, atrial flutter,& and atrial fibrillation.
Amiodarone - Antiarrhythmics
Contraindicated if pt. has known hypersensitive, complete heart block, or left bundle branch block.
Used for the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias, given intravenously
Procainamide - Antiarrhythmics
Contraindicated for pts. with complete heart block, known hypersensitivity, lupus, or torsades de pointes
Improves response to defibrillation, for frequent PVC, ventricular tachycardia, and fibrillation
Lidocaine - Antiarrhythmics
Used for the treatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT), for conversion to sinus rhythm.
Adenosine - Antiarrhythmics
For cardiac arrest given an IV push of 300mg
Amiodarone - Antisrrhythmics
For a systole or pulseless electrical activity given IV push 1mg
Atropine - Antiarrhythmics
Given for rate control IV 15-20mg (0.25mg/kg) over 2 minutes
Diltiazem - Antiarrhythmics
For cardiac arrest given 1-2g diluted in 10 ml D5W
Magnesium Sulfate -Antiarrhythmics
Given for recurrent ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia IV 20mg/minutes
Procainamide - Antiarrhythmics
Given IV, I or orally. For mildly to moderately severe infections.
Penicillin -Antibiotics
Should be taken for 48-72 hrs.
Use caution for pts. with hypersensitivity, bleeding disorders, or cystic fibrosis.
Given IV, I or oral. Used to treat infections such as Shigella, Salmonella e-coli, or meningitis
Ampicillin - Antibiotics
Given for serious infections such as pseudomonas, e-coli, or staphylococcal
Given IV or IM.
Gentimycin - Antibiotics
Given IV, I or orally, for a variety of infections
Cephalosporins - Antibiotics
Use caution in pts. with known hypersensitivity
Given for serious or severe infections such as staphylococcal or endocarditis
Vancomycin -Antibiotics
Use caution in pts. with known hypersensitivity
Given for nausea or vomiting.
Given IV, dilute vial with 50ml of D5 or 0.9% NaCL
Ondansetron - Antimetics
Given to pts. with intermittent claudication
Pletal (Cilostazol) - Antiplatelet
Contraindicated in pts. that have a known sensitivity.
Half life 11-13hrs.
Given to pts. with atherosclerosis that have peripheral artery disease, stroke or had a recent MI
Plavix - Antiplatelet
Not for pts. with active pathological bleeding or known hypersensitive.
Aspirin may also be given in conjunction with plavix. Half life 11days.
Indicated for pts. having percutaneous coronary intervention.
ReoPro (Abciximab) - Antiplatelet
Contraindicated in pts. with recent internal bleeding, CVA within 2 years, or recent surgery.
Half life 10minutes.
Gives an amnesic effect & helps to relax pts.
It's more potent than Valium but shorter acting. It is usually used in combination with Fentanyl.
Versed (Midazolam) - Anxiolytics
Half life 1.8-6.4 hrs.
Used to relax pts. & is much longer acting than Versed.
Valium (Diazepam) - Anxiolytics
Half life 20-80hrs.
Pt. may be pre-medicated with Ativan to help calm him/her prior to the procedure.
Ativan (Lorazepam) -Anxiolytics
Half life 10-20hrs.
If pt. was over medicated with Valium, Versed or Ativan, it can be reversed using?
Romazicon (Flumazenil) - Emergency medications
If pt. was over medicated with Fentanyl, Morphine or Demerol (narcotics), it can be reversed with?
Narcan (Naloxone) - Emergency medications
Indications: Vasovagal reactions with decreased heart rate & blood pressure, sinus bradycardia, & nausea & vomiting
Atropine Sulfate - Emergency medications
Releaves bronchospasm, laryngospasm, anaphylaxis, reverses severe hypotension, vasoconstrictor, increases heart rate, & increases ventricular contractility.
Epinephrine -Emergency medications
Used for minor allergic reactions - hives & nausea
Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) - Emergency medications
These are contraindicated in pts who have internal bleeding, recent surgery or trauma.
Thrombolytics
May be reversed with Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP).
Thrombolytic medications
Urokinase (Abbokinase), Streptokinase (Steptase), Alteplase (tPA), Reteplase (rPA)
Contraindications: pts. who had surgery within the last 10days, recent CVA (within 2 mos.), recent intracranial or spinal surgery, cerebral tumors, & pts who are bleeding.
Given for hemodynamic imbalance, COPD or CHF
Dopamine - Vasoconstrictors
Contraindicated in pts with tachyarrthmias or ventricular fibrillation.
Reduces blood pressure, helps prevent arterial vasospasm
Nifedipine (procardia) - Vasodilators
Adverse reactions: Hypotension & bitter taste
Placed trasdermaly for angina & vasospasm 1-1.5" nitro paste
Sublingual for angina relief 0.4mg.
Intra arterial for artery spasm 100mg
Nitroglycerin - Vasodilators
Adverse reaction: hypotension & headache
Used in peripheral vessels, usually injected before taking arterial pressures & may be given to optimally visualize the arteries prior to arteriogram
Priscoline (Tolazoline) - Vasodilators
Vasodilator & antispasmodic it's action is more pronounced with spasm on the cerebral, coronary, pylmonary, & peripheral arteries
