Auscultation
The act of listening for sounds made by internal organs, as the heart and lungs, to aid in the diagnosis of certain disorders.
Ischemia
(page 1078 & 1484) A decrease in the blood supply to a bodily organ, tissue, or part caused by constriction or obstruction of the blood vessels. Two common manifestations of myocardial ischemia are angina pectoris & mycardial infarction.
Cardiomyopathy
disease or disorder of the heart muscle, especially of unknown or obscure cause.
Patent
Of, relating to, or being a nonprescription drug or other medical preparation that is often protected by a trademark.
Diuretics
(p.1602,1208,1149,656,1284) 1.Tending to increase the discharge of urine. 2.A substance or drug that tends to increase the discharge of urine. Drugs with special implications for the surgical client:Diuretics potentiate electrolyte imbalances (particularly potassium) after surgery.
Hemostasis
(page 1492, 1526-1527) 1.The stoppage of bleeding or hemorrhage. 2.The stoppage of blood flow through a blood vessel or body part
Homeostasis
The ability or tendency of an organism or cell to maintain internal equilibrium by adjusting its physiological processes.
Varices(plural)/
varix(singular)-
An abnormally dilated or swollen vein, artery, or lymph vessel.
Hyperlipidemia
An excess of fats or lipids in the blood. Also called hyperlipemia
