What’s the significance of the Comcast merger?

It's the biggest conglomerate by margining with NBC, essentially, they are giving Comcast the ability to determine content. Comcast is becoming an incredibly powerful media monopoly. They are afraid that only Comcast subscribers will be able to get NBC, but Comcast isn’t going to do that because a) it’s not a smart move and b) there have been government regulations put in place to prevent it. This merger would not have happened back in the 1800s when there were more regulations to break up monopolies.

What did the Sherman Antitrust Act do?

1890 – outlawed the monopoly practices and corporate trusts that often fixed prices to force competitors out of business

1914 – prohibited manufacturers from selling only to dealers and contractors who agreed to reject the products of business rivals
