Famotidine

H2 receptor antagonist, take with food, Avoid alcohol, smoking, OTC cold and cough products, and food that increase GI irritation

Laxatice, Stimulant, stimulates peristalsis, take with a full glass of water, can cause hypokalemia with chronic use, taking on empty stomach will produce faster result

Terbutaline

Bronchidilator, reversible airway disease, take with meals to decrease GI upset

Psyllium

Laxative, bulk forming, for simple or chronic constipation, administer with a full glass of water followed by another glass of water, take immediately after mixing contents, form an emollient that promotes peristalsis

Ciprofloxacin

Anti infective, toxic effect: seizure, anaphylaxis, side effect: diarrhea, antacid or medications containing iron or zinc lowers absorption, photosensitivity

Phenazopyridine

Non opioid analgesic, local anesthetic effect, reddish orange color of urine, assess for s/s of UTI, administer with food to decrease GI irritation

Diphenoxylate

Antidiarrheal, inhibits peristalsis, monitor for anaphylaxis

Lomotil

Loperamide

Antidiarrheal, prolong transit time by direct effect on nerves, inhibits peristalsis
