What are the 5 permissions that files and folders have in common and what one is different?
In common: Full Control, Modify, Read & Execute, Read, and Write.
Folders only have "List Folder Contents".
Will the Write NTFS permission allow you to change the ownership and permissions?
No, only view the ownership and permissions. To change them, you need the Modify permision.
What does the ACL (Access Control List) contain?
All the users and groups that have been granted or denied access, as well as what the type of access granted or denied.
Rules for figuring out effective NTFS cummulative permissions.
1. Permissions are cumulative.
2. File permissions override folder permissions.
3. Deny overrides other permissions.
Can you access a file you have permission for but do not have permission to see the folder?
Yes, if you know the name and path. You cannot browse to it.
